Can I pack my own boxes?

We can pack your precious belongings or you can do this yourself. Our removalists will ensure that all of your precious household goods and furniture items are wrapped in our specialised protective materials. Removalists have access to furniture pads, blankets, and specialised export wrapping purpose-built to protect your belongings.

Do you supply packing boxes or should I buy my own?

We will happily provide all the cartons for your move or you can buy your own. If you use your own boxes, avoid using boxes that previously contained food, fruits or plant items.

Packing your household goods yourself may also affect the insurance coverage that we can offer. You may not be covered for damages sustained to your effects as a result of your packing. We recommend allowing your highly trained Mathers removalists do the packing for you.

Will I need to dismantle my furniture before removal?

Andrew Mathers removalists will arrive on the day with a tool kit and dismantle any large items such as beds and tables at uplift. We ask that certain items, such as swing sets, cubby houses, and built-in fixtures are dismantled prior to transport. If you require assistance with this, we can provide a disassembly service for you, simply ask our moving consultants for a quote or for further information.

Do I need to be present on moving day?

We will require you or your representative to be in attendance at all times while they are in your home. It is important also that someone is present to check and verify your items at delivery and direct your removal crew for furniture placement in your new home.

How long will it take to move house?

It all depends on how prepared you are, how much you are moving, and accessibility at each address, traffic, and the final destination of your possessions. Local removals occur on the same day whereas interstate removals will take a number of days. Check with us to see what we can do for you.

Do I need to insure my furniture and possessions?

Our removalists are highly experienced and some of the best in the business, however, sometimes accidents do happen. In most cases, your house and contents insurance won’t cover you in the case of an accident, so we recommend you consider Andrew Mathers Storage and Removals Insurance as it is easy to organise and very affordable! We recommend everyone take out removals insurance for peace of mind.

What could I do on removal day to help?

Our professional removalists are highly experienced and while we will move you as quickly and as safely as possible, there are some things you can do to help you save even more money during your house move.

  • Clear the hallways – we always start with your larger items, make sure your hallways and doorways are clear, so the removalists can get access to your beds and couches.
  • Make sure everything is packed – make sure everything is boxed up and stacked neatly. Don’t overfill the boxes as they require more removalists to move, or they can fall apart putting your items at risk of damage. Please ensure you label your cartons, so we know which room to place them in your new home.
  • Disassemble your furniture and unplug whitegoods & technology – If your bed comes apart, make sure you disassemble it prior to our furniture removalists arriving.  White goods and technology also need to be unplugged and prepared the day before, read our hints and tips on how to prepare your items prior to moving day.
  • Ensure you only pack what your furniture removalist can transport – check with us for guidance.

Are you an accredited removalist?

Andrew Mathers Storage & Removals is fully accredited by AFRA. Not all removal companies use accredited removalists and AFRA accredits only those removalists that have the necessary equipment, vehicles, premises and staff training needed to complete a professional move; a removalist that has been fully trained in the correct methods for packing and transporting furniture and possessions, ensuring peace of mind.

Australian Furniture Removers Association (AFRA) is an official body of removals experts that helps regulate the removals industry. AFRA is consulted by Government departments before they make decisions about the industry.
